Google has introduced a brand-new status dashboard for Google Search, which can be found at https://status.search.google.com/.
Google provides additional details regarding the Search Status Dashboard's future.
- Updates to the Search Status Dashboard won't be translated into other languages.
- Updates may offer more search options in addition to the first three categories of incidents.
- RSS feeds make it simple to stay informed of new instances.
Google Search Status Dashboard
A new Search Status Dashboard that notifies users of outages was just introduced by Google. You can check the Google Search status dashboard to see if there is an outage or other problem. If there is a problem with crawling, indexing, or serving in Google Search, Google will specifically confirm it.
Because it's an easy way for consumers and service providers to interact, service status pages are frequently used by services like web hosting.
Google stated that it wanted to "provide another tool for the public to understand the most current status of systems which affect Search—crawling, indexing, and serving" as we approach 2023.
The three different sorts of outages are described as follows:
After mapping the dashboard to the key search systems, which are crawling, indexing, and serving. And the incidents would be placed in the containers.
- If Googlebot, for whatever reason, is unable to crawl the entire internet, for instance, that would fall into the crawling bucket.
- If there is a canonicalization issue that several sites are experiencing, that will fall under the indexing category.
- The website will go into the serving bucket if Google.com is not widely accessible.
For the dashboard's first iteration, those three sorts of outages exist.
How It Works
According to Google,
This dashboard displays overall difficulties over the past seven days, along with some specifics and the incident's current state. A systematic issue with a Search system that affects numerous websites or Search users is referred to as a broad issue.
These faults are typically extremely obvious from the outside, but internal monitoring and alerting systems used by SREs are working behind the scenes to highlight the problems.
Our global team reports these modifications, unlike with a conventional automated dashboard. In most cases, the issue was confirmed at the beginning of the incident, according to Google.
What Drives Google to Release a Search Status Dashboard?
Prior to Twitter, Google issued sporadic outage alerts, but this method had drawbacks that made it less than ideal, according to Google employees.
A recent podcast mentioned: following the significant search failures of 2019 that made it look as though the entire index had crashed, Google had promised a dashboard back in 2019.
"Well, one of the reasons is that we promised it in 2019, so we stated that we would have a more structured and better communication route for Search occurrences," Gay Illyes outlined.
So, that was one of the dashboard's driving forces.
There was a feeling that we weren't working hard enough.
As a result, both internally and internationally, we kind of wanted to correct the situation because, as I recall hearing, "We have to be polite."
There Are No Plans To Translate
The new status page will not have a translated version, according to the podcast.
The Google employees claim that the translation of the dashboard announcements is beyond the capabilities of their CMS.
They believe that people who cannot read English should be able to use a service like Google Translate.

RSS Feed
Receiving notifications about outages at Google is easy with the Search Status Dashboard.
For those who use them, there is an RSS feed that makes getting notifications simple.
The dashboard's value is in its ability to identify whether a change in ranking is the result of a problem with the site or is widespread across Google searches.
Twitter Posting Involves a Lot of Overhead
The program then moved on to talk about how tough it is to decide whether outages are significant enough to warrant a tweet and how many people must be consulted before a tweet is written.
The lack of templates for the tweets made the task of communicating an outage even more complicated.
Wrap Up
We occasionally, albeit infrequently, observe problems with Google Search's indexing, crawling, and serving, but we must contact Google to get a confirmation of the problem. Now, just like it does for many of its other goods and services, Google will put assurance on the dashboard.
